Case Study Highlight: Pixie

Little Pixie presented at Mountainside after showing signs of lethargy, vomiting, and a lower interest in food. Being a young and otherwise healthy cat, Pixie's symptoms were certainly alarming. After visiting her primary care veterinarian, she came in to Mountainside for further evaluation and care.

Based on her bloodwork and radiographs, the medical team decided to proceed with an exploratory surgery to determine if Pixie had ingested foreign material.

During her surgery, the doctor found thread wrapped around her tongue, traveling down through the gastrointestinal system as well. The thread was carefully removed during her mostly uneventful surgery, and she recovered well.

Pixie stayed the night and once she began eating the next day was able to return home. Upon returning home, Pixie did continue to experience a lack of appetite and lethargy.

She came back in for a recheck where she was given some anti-nausea medication, appetite stimulant, and some subcutaneous fluids for hydration. After her minor setback, Pixie fully recovered and is feeling much more like her usual playful self!

Pixie was also a recipient of our Angel Fund—a perfect example of a young pet with a good prognosis who might otherwise have been euthanized due to financial constraints. We created this fund because we believe that finances shouldn’t stand in the way of a pet’s recovery. While resources are limited and we’re not able to help in every case, we’re grateful to be able to offer hope and assistance when we can.
